Quality teams deal daily with inspection reports, non-conformance records and FAI dossiers that reference 3D models, usually without a CAD license to open them. The fastest fix is to attach a link to a web viewer of the reference model: the customer, the supplier or the receiving agent sees the part in 3D from their browser, with no SolidWorks or CATIA. Metrology Formats Supported

Metrology and dimensional inspection software exports to formats compatible with OmniView 3D: STEP (from PC-DMIS, Calypso, GOM Inspect, ZEISS) for the nominal CAD model; STL (from 3D scanners GOM, ATOS, Creaform) for the mesh of the actual part; GLB for modern quality reporting. To carry tolerances and PMI inside the model itself, prefer STEP AP242 (ISO 10303-242): it holds semantic PMI that inspection tools can consume automatically, with no re-keying of the drawing. Traceability and the Cost of Poor Interoperability

Circulating CAD files that half the team can't open has a measured cost: an RTI study for NIST estimated that imperfect interoperability costs the U.S. automotive supply chain over $1 billion a year, most of it in re-entering and repairing data. A viewer link attached to the report removes that re-keying: the reference model stays available permanently (unlimited retention on Pro and Business plans), private by default, revocable, hosted in the EU (AWS eu-west-1, Ireland) and GDPR-compliant.
